This past weekend was spent in the beautiful Tennessee valley. Todd's mom's family has a yearly reunion and this year it was held at Todd's aunt and uncle Charles and Sherry's house in Church Hill, TN. We took off from Charlotte around lunch time on Friday, grabbed some drive-through lunch and started the 4 or so hour drive through the mountains. It's just gorgeous! We got to Todd's grandmother's around 5:00. Nana and Papa Sloan and aunt Shelly got there about 30 minutes before we did so we had a nice greeting. We got the van unpacked and settled into our room, and after a quick trip to the grocery store we headed to Charles and Sissy's for a Mexican buffet. YUMMY! The adults enjoyed a cool evening of catching up and cutting up while the kids played together.
That night it took Ryann forever to fall asleep. She was just so wound up from the fun evening with new cousins to play with. Poor Judson has a bad eczema break out right now, so he was pretty miserable. We kept him on a consistent dose of Benadryl and his steroid cream, just trying to keep it under control. Poor little guy. He's such a trooper with the constant itching and sneezing. I just feel so bad for him some times. Anyway, all that to say he was up itching a lot Friday night. I did the best I could to make him comfortable, but it was a long night.
Saturday we got up and took our time having breakfast and getting ready for the day. Todd and Kathey took Judson and Ryann back to Charles and Sissy's for a morning of swimming in the pool while Bobby, Shelly and I went to a big local antique store. I found so much milk glass, but narrowed it down to 3 pieces, which Bobby was kind enough to buy for me. (Todd's aunt Sissy and grandmother both gave me some of their milk glass as well, so my collection is really coming along.) Bobby also found a cup and saucer of the depression glass he collects and Shelly bought some beautiful vintage fabric to make some dresses for Ryann. I would say it was a very successful trip!
After antique shopping we ran back to pick up Todd's grandmother and then headed back to reunion central. It was a warm afternoon, but we stayed as cool as we could. We relaxed, visited, looked at old pictures, played games and just enjoyed each other's company. We had great BBQ for dinner and then played a few more group games before dessert.
We all slept like rocks Saturday night and then after breakfast, said our good-byes and headed home. What a great weekend with family! Thank you Charles and Sherry, and everyone else who contributed, for another fun reunion! We love you!
