We spent Thanksgiving with friends and family, the way it should be. It was another great Thanksgiving day. We spent a lazy morning at home. The kids watched the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special that I had recorded earlier in the week while I made the yearly cheese ball and got everything together for the corn casserole I would make later at mom's. By around 11:30 we were all dressed and ready to go. Lisa and her crew had gotten there the evening before so we were greeted by my nephews Walker and Fletcher. Well, I should say Ryann and Judson were. They ran right past boring auntie Amber. Who needs me when there are cousins around to play with. (I guess they weren't impressed by the cheese ball.) We were followed by the Russells, Uncle Brandon and the Cruser Family. With this the endless food consumption of the day began. One of the many wonderful things about this holiday. Another of my favorites is watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, which we were allowed to do only until football started. Ugh! The kids spent the day outside in Grandpa's backyard. To be more specific, they spent the day running and jumping in the huge pile of leaves that was there. They were covered in leaves for most of the day, but man did they have a good time!
Around 2:30 it was time to eat the REAL food. Turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, broccoli/cauliflower casserole, corn and corn casserole, cranberries, sweet potatoes, fruit salad and home made rolls...YUMMY! After lunch more football was watched while we got ready for the first annual "Turkey Egg Hunt". It began as a joke, but is now going to be a yearly tradition. The eggs were hidden in the leaves and all over the backyard, just as they are at Easter, but this time when the kids found them they had to yell "gobble, gobble". They loved it!
After the hunt it was time for pie. This years selection included carmel apple, pecan, pumpkin, chocolate pudding, and blackberry. There was a lot to be thankful for! :)
We ended the night by watching "The Polar Express" to mark the beginning of the Christmas season.
It was an awesome day! We are truly blessed!
