This past Sunday night we were pleasantly surprised with a late season snow. This time we didn't just get a "dusting" of snow, it was a REAL snow, with big beautiful flakes. By the time it was done we had around 5 inches. I collected bowls of snow during the night and attempted to make "snow cream" for breakfast for the kids, but I'm not sure what it is supposed to taste like since I've never made it before. It had more of a snow cone consistency, but the kids seemed to think it was good and were excited to have any kind of ice cream for breakfast. After we ate we got our make shift snow clothes on, which meant layers of clothes, socks, coats and gloves. Todd tried to force the kids to wear grocery bags over their shoes. Judson didn't care, but Ryann was not having it. We compromised and I put the bags inside her shoes instead. That seemed to be ok and she was off. It was more of a frozen snow than a fluffy one so the snow angels didn't really work, but it was great for making snowballs and after a bit of work we even made a snowman. "Johnny the Snowman" according to the kids. We didn't have any sleds so we improvised again with bowls and baking sheets. They worked just fine on our little 6 foot slope in the backyard. The kids loved it and even mommy rode down a couple of times. We spent a couple hours outside until we were all pretty soaked and cold. It was a great way to spend the morning, and the best part...by afternoon most of the snow was gone. By the weekend it's supposed to be back up in the low 70's! This is why we live in the South. Snow is a treat rather than a royal pain in the...well, you know where.
